plaited bread

"Ooo, mommy are we having shabbat?"

This from the ministers daughter at the vestry when she spotted the kitka bread on the kitchen counter.
We love Sea Point.
The fact that our children grow up in a culturally diverse neighbourhood.
And every Friday the stores are enveloped in the warm, comforting smell of kitka bread.
Piles of kitka.

Lauren had heard a rumour that one could buy ready made kitka dough at our local Spar on a Friday morning.
So we thought: TADA.... let's plait bread!

On a floured surface the girls kneaded the dough, made shapes or plaited long rolled out strips of dough.  They painted their rolls with whisked egg ( fresh from our hens) and baked at 180 degrees celcius until golden brown. And the kitchen smelt heavenly. Yum.
