broken telephone

The  promise of secrets shared. The adventure of telephone strings strung between neighbourhood friends.  Memories and dreams we wanted to share with the girls.  The magic you can create with a couple of tins and a ball of string.

Ok, the reality is, they didn't work as well as we remembered, but the lesson learnt:  don't use pretty coloured wool just because you like pretty colours.  Use string. Real string, preferably the thick kind.  If you really want pretty colours: dye the string.  But use string, and they will work.

Once you have cleaned your cans, removed the labels and made sure that there are no sharp edges, carefully make a hole in the centre of each tin with a hammer and a nail. Now you can thread string  through the hole, knot and connect it to another can. Feel free to decorate your can with stickers or rectangles of cards that the kids can paint
and stick around the can (see below).

Lesson NO. 2
The string cans worked a lot better outside with more open space and less chance of getting
into the tangled mess that we found ourselves in...
Good luck making them and send us the pics
